Bruges Police Zone invests in future-oriented communication

Being reachable at all times for critical calls is crucial for the Bruges Police Zone. To achieve this, they have decisively chosen the innovative technologies of LynX. The implementation of MiVoice Business, MiCollab, and MiVoice Call Recording gives all 450 employees the ability to communicate efficiently with both colleagues and citizens. We spoke with Dieter Deprince, ICT Advisor at the Bruges Police Zone, and Killian Verhoeven, Communication Engineer and Mitel Expert at LynX.

The new telephone system is extremely user-friendly—easy to install, visually clear, and convenient to use. We can communicate more efficiently, which gives a significant boost to our internal collaboration.

Effortless transition to the new system

“When the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in 2020, the Bruges Police Zone had to act quickly. Dieter explains: ‘Previously, there was one desk phone for every four employees in the office. When we were forced to work from home, we realized that our current way of working needed a significant upgrade. The goal of the new telephone system: to ensure that everyone is reachable anytime, anywhere.’

To make the transition as smooth as possible, a two-phase rollout was chosen. ‘In the first phase, we implemented MiVoice Business,’ Killian explains. ‘This central telephony system handles all calls exactly the way you want. Think of automatic call forwarding when you’re unavailable, or having multiple devices ring simultaneously when a specific number is called. For optimal ease of use, we moved away from physical desk phones. We installed the SoftPhone application on every PC, and each employee received a headset.’

With MiVoice Business, our internal communication is now much more efficient.

In the second phase, employees will have the option to install the mobile application, MiCollab, on their smartphones. This allows them to be reachable while on the move, which is a major advantage for intervention teams who are no longer solely reliant on their radios. Moreover, it gives them more capabilities than just sending or receiving radio calls.

Easily reachable 24/7

"During the implementation, the LynX engineers immersed themselves in the operations of the police zone, and our IT department received hands-on training,” says Dieter. “This allowed us to learn how to work with the software step by step. Are there still any uncertainties or issues? Then we can always rely on the LynX experts, even now that the software is installed and we want to further refine certain aspects."

Killian: “In addition, LynX continuously monitors the communication system to ensure optimal performance, and the two virtual servers are set up redundantly. We can intervene whenever necessary so that the police zone remains reachable at all times.”

“And that’s exactly what we were looking for,” concludes Dieter. “A flexible communication solution that we can adapt or expand according to future needs.”
