Renovating adds value to the building without significantly impacting residents and staff.
Technology is not an end in itself, but a means—a means to provide residents with a better living and care experience. With that intention, WZC Mayerhof in Mortsel joined us on this journey. Meanwhile, various tools, including the smart buttons, are being used to deliver more efficient care. A look back with General Director, Jean-Pierre Waterkyn.
Controlling access to the center or allowing care staff to easily send calls are just some of the applications of the smart buttons found at WZC Mayerhof. For the past year, they have been implementing the innovative technology from 25-8. ‘In this way, we relieve our staff, including administratively, allowing them to focus on what really matters,’ says Waterkyn.
For Facility Manager Jurgen Van De Velde, the localization feature is the most innovative product: ‘Residents who go for a walk can be located immediately.’ In addition, the smart buttons are also used for access control or as a convenient call system. ‘These buttons provide clear communication. Moreover, they have multiple functions, which also allows us to save on stock. A true win-win,’ concludes Van De Velde.
We use the smart button for multiple functions. This way, we need much less stock.

We always start by looking at the cabling already available in the building. The new technology is then integrated on top of that. This new technology is an addition: existing systems are maintained. As a result, there is minimal impact on both the building and the residents. The custom solution is therefore deployed almost imperceptibly. ‘It’s an open system, where other systems can easily be integrated,’ says General Director Jean-Pierre Waterkyn.
